The most useful Dutch shopping rule is this: \u201cI changed my mind\u201d and \u201cthe product is defective\u201d are legally different problems.<\/strong> Online purchases also have different cancellation rights from ordinary purchases made inside a physical shop.<\/p>\n

There is no simple Dutch \u201ctwo-year and then nothing\u201d rule<\/h2>\n

Dutch statutory conformity focuses on what you could reasonably expect from the product. ACM ConsuWijzer explains that a product can be non-conforming when, under normal use, it breaks sooner than reasonably expected, is incomplete, differs from what was promised, or lacks expected updates\/instructions. A manufacturer’s commercial warranty does not replace these statutory rights against the seller.<\/p>\n

Online: 14 days is the starting point, not the whole story<\/h2>\n

For many distance purchases, the cooling-off period runs through 14 days after delivery (or after concluding certain service contracts). There are exceptions, including some personalised, perishable, sealed-hygiene and other products\/services. After notifying the seller that you cancel, separate return deadlines apply. Always check the official current rules for the particular purchase.<\/p>\n

If a seller says \u201ccontact the manufacturer\u201d<\/h2>\n

Your statutory claim for a non-conforming consumer product is against the seller<\/strong>. A manufacturer’s warranty can be useful, but a retailer should not use it to erase its own statutory obligations.<\/p>\n
