MijnOverheid is a secure portal where you can see selected government data, follow some cases and receive digital government post in the Berichtenbox. The portal delivers information; the organisation named as sender remains responsible for the contents of a letter or decision.

Berichtenbox: digital government post

The Berichtenbox is a one-way inbox: you receive government messages there, but you do not send a reply through the Berichtenbox itself. If a letter needs action, use the contact, portal or objection route of the organisation that sent it.

Turn on notifications and keep your email current

MijnOverheid can send an email notification when a new Berichtenbox message arrives. Logius has warned that people without a confirmed email address can miss important government post. Check the email address in your MijnOverheid settings and do not rely on memory alone to inspect the inbox.

Do not confuse the notification with the official message

A notification only tells you that something is waiting. Open MijnOverheid yourself, read the actual message, note the sender, date, reference number, payment or response deadline, and any section explaining objection or appeal.

Phishing rule for MijnOverheid

MijnOverheid states that it never sends a link or QR code in an email and never sends an SMS message. If an email claiming to be from MijnOverheid contains a link or QR code, or you receive a supposed MijnOverheid SMS, treat it as suspicious. Navigate to MijnOverheid independently and log in with DigiD.

Which organisations and data appear?

MijnOverheid is connected to many, but not all, public bodies. Its personal-data view can surface information from registers such as the BRP, income register, Kadaster, WOZ, RDW vehicle register and DUO diploma register, as well as links to separate portals such as Mijn Belastingdienst, Mijn Toeslagen, Mijn UWV, Mijn SVB and Mijn DUO.

If something shown is wrong

MijnOverheid generally cannot change source data itself. Contact the organisation responsible for the underlying register or decision. If a government-registration error remains unresolved, the MijnOverheid contact flow points to the Meldpunt Fouten in Overheidsregistraties (MFO) as an escalation route.

Practical weekly routine

  • Keep a confirmed email address in MijnOverheid.
  • Open the Berichtenbox after every notification and periodically even if no email arrived.
  • Save important decisions and note deadlines separately in your calendar.
  • Identify the sender before asking a question or making an objection.
  • Use the sender’s own portal for forms, payments, objections and replies.
