There is no universal Dutch package of business insurance that every entrepreneur must buy. The useful question is: which risks can your legal structure, contract, sector or personal finances absorb, and which should be insured?
Common categories to investigate
- Bedrijfsaansprakelijkheid (AVB): business liability for damage/injury.
- Beroepsaansprakelijkheid: professional liability; mandatory in some professions and contractually required in others.
- Arbeidsongeschiktheid (AOV): income risk if a self-employed person cannot work.
- Legal expenses: business disputes and collection/legal assistance depending on cover.
- Cyber/data: relevant where digital systems and personal data create material exposure.
- Inventory/building/vehicle: depending on assets and operations.
Do not confuse private and business cover
A private liability or home policy may exclude business activities. Check policy wording before assuming an existing private policy covers work from home, customer property or professional mistakes.
